Information About the Impact of COVID-19 on the Families of our Godchildren
For a long time no COVID-19 cases were reported from Myanmar. But meanwhile COVID-19 has reached the country also officially.
The government had started already several weeks back with precautionary measures. All universities and education institutes were closed. Schools were not directly impacted since anyhow the 3-months holidays have started beginning of March. All official Thingyan events were cancelled. Cinemas and theatres are closed since few weeks, as well as factories. Since there is no protection for employees in Myanmar, this means that all workers do not have any income. This affects also the families of many godchildren.
The situation in Mingun is even worse, because there most families live directly or indirectly from tourism. As Myanmar is close to China already since January the tourism went down drastically, because many tourists were afraid of an infection with SARS-CoV-2. Meanwhile no tourists are allowed any more to enter the country. This means that the families in Mingun are absolutely without any income now.
Aggravating circumstances are that since start of the corona-crises the prizes for food drastically increased. A bag of rice sufficing approx 3 weeks for an average family for example costs around EUR 30,–.
If godparents want to help their godchildren and families with an extra-support during these difficult times, they can transfer the amount to the account of Förderverein Myanmar e.V. (Deutsche Bank – IBAN: DE48 5907 0070 0055 0665 00). The money will be paid out 100% to the family of the godchild. For correct allocation the name and the ID of the godchild plus the remark “Extra-Support” should be mentioned on the bank transfer.
In the name of our godchildren we say „thankyou“ for each amount additionally donated.
Of course, you can also donate without being a member of the Förderverein e.V., or to care for a godchild. Simply enter “rice donation” as the intended purpose. The donation receipt will be sent to you later.

If you donate via the normal account of the Förderverein, you have to enter as reason for payment “rice donation” and your address, so that we can issue a donation receipt.
